Solar activity picking up in 2010

Postby GeorgeN » Sat Feb 13, 2010 1:34 pm

With solar activity picking up (largest flair in 2 years happened yesterday) readers might be interested in the daily “3-day Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center and the U.S. Air Force”. This report (issued late in the day eastern time) describes solar activity for the previous day, and more importantly, gives a prediction of solar activity (including potential for aurora) for the next 3 days.

Here’s the link: http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/forecast.html

I have had little chance to observe the sun the past month or so, but I have been watching spaceweather.com an awful lot, and wow! Lots of stuff going on there.

Thanks for the pointer to this reference George - it is really great!
